Instructors are permitted to guide a limited number of students in individualized studies in order to provide an opportunity for academically qualified students to explore themes outside the regular curriculum. Students may consult with professors about their interest in individualized study, but the decision regarding the offering of an individualized study lies with the instructor. The specific nature of the study will be determined by the instructor, and a written plan of study must be approved by the instructor and by the Registrar. Individualized study normally requires several periodic review sessions with the instructor during the course of the semester. A student may register for only one individualized study at a time (IND6910, 6912, and 6920 may be combined). Adjunctive faculty do not offer individualized study. Elected and appointed faculty are limited in the number of students they may supervise in individualized study programs. Required work must be completed during the semester or term in which the student is enrolled. No more than 6 hours of individualized study credit may be applied toward any degree program.
There is a fee of $125.
